As much as I appreciate and respect what you stand for, you and all other politicians would have to walk in the shoes of us retirees living on a small monthly Social Security alone, to truly grasp the gravity of how and under what conditions we live.

I love that you’re still fighting for Medicare for all.

Thank you and please, please keep fighting for us.

With deep respect 🙏🏻

The Democratic Party is destroyed.. The revolution that you were seeking When you were “ Sticking it to the man” Already happened when Trump beat the establishment in 2015..

The entire establishment and mainstream media was trying to elect Hillary Clinton. Let’s be honest…

They hate Trump because he’s not a career politician, they can’t control him. He’s an outsider

Wendy Kidd's avatar

Anyone with a brain can see that Trump is the face of the hate groups. Democracy isn’t destroyed. The parties flipped a long time ago:

Key Phases of the Party Switch:

1930s (The New Deal): The transition began under Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His "New Deal" policies expanded the size and scope of the federal government to combat the Great Depression, shifting the Democratic Party toward a platform of government intervention and social welfare.

The 1960s (Civil Rights): The switch accelerated during the Civil Rights Movement. In 1964, Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the landmark Civil Rights Act.

As the national Democratic Party embraced civil rights, conservative white Southern Democrats (who had previously formed the "Solid South" voting bloc) began to leave the party.

The Late 1960s–1980s (The Southern Strategy): Republican strategists capitalized on this shifting dynamic by adopting the "Southern Strategy". Under leaders like Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, the Republican Party appealed to disaffected Southern voters and "values voters" by championing states' rights, law and order, and social conservatism.

The Resulting Ideological Shift:

Democrats: Transformed from a conservative, states' rights party rooted in the South into a progressive party advocating for federal civil rights, social programs, and government intervention.

Republicans: Evolved from the anti-slavery party of Abraham Lincoln into a center-right and conservative party focused on free markets, smaller federal government, and traditional social values

Dawgg Chapman's avatar

The career politicians have been screwing us for decades, We all know they were bullshitting way before Trump started calling them all out..

You lefties Don’t realize the revolution you were searching for already happened when Trump beat the establishment.. You were still trying to “stick it to the man” But the mainstream media fooled you and now you probably hate Trump for no reason… I mean, do you really support Hillary Clinton?

- It’s time to stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry and recognize it as income transfer.

- It’s time to stop waging illegal wars which transfers income to the military industrial complex.

- It’s time to enforce the laws on corruption that already exist.

- It’s time to change norms into laws where necessary.

- Ii’s time to stop electing people who violate their oaths of office and breach the public trust.

- It’s time to make our government serve the people and stop serving rich donors.

All these things can be accomplished by ending citizens united.

This is what I want in a candidate How to be a “We the People” politician in 5 easy steps:

1. Get out and talk to the people (grassroots boots on the ground), listen and find out what their

needs are.

(Include: working and middle class in rural, suburban and urban communities.)

2. Shape policy around the people’s needs

3. Avoid billionaire and corporate donations.

(You report to the people; therefore you will not be owned by the billionaires/corporations)

4. Activate a vast number of volunteers all year long - every year

(We the People want to be involved. Find & organize things we can to do)

5. Repeat - all year long - every year. An ongoing process

And if Citizens United is repealed, then politicians will get their money from the people they represent and that's who they will be serving. What a concept.

Yours is the first comment to describe actions we can take rather than criticize what hasn’t worked.

#’s 1,4 and 5 will lead to #’s 2 and 3.

Particularly # 1.

Christy B.'s avatar

But but just Citizens United - all super PACs! And removing corrupt justices from their seat in the Supreme Court.

Mary's avatar

Spot on! But Senator Sanders - you're talking about Congress working. I think you and the progressives are the only ones who want to do anything to change the country. The rest....le sigh. As you point out - we need to elect progressives with solutions and who want to work to office.

He's talking both about Democratic leadership (DNC and Party leadership) AND the kinds of leaders voters should

be supporting.

I’m a doctor in an urban safety net hospital. I agree we need Medicare for All, but only because of what it then allows: by setting the foundation of human worthiness to care attached to federally-guaranteed payment, this can be the premise for wellness and prevention efforts. Otherwise it’s just a giveaway to more inefficient fee-for-service illness care and perpetual rent-seeking for people like me. Rebuilding health care means social care which works, which means investment in education, equity, and innovations that will use our powerful new tools (AI, biotechnology, etc) for human flourishing. By founding this on the premise of universal human dignity and also MEASURING IT systematically as the guarantor of the public’s welfare, we can ensure that such changing technological forces tend to enrich, rather than impoverish our material and spiritual lives, invigorating the process of discovery and our democracy as well.

And it would give lawmakers skin in the game when they need to decide whether to take corporate bribes for allowing disease causing products, additives, growing methods, pollution etc OR protect the people they serve. Many European countries ban our worst products because they are responsible for the healthcare costs of their populations. Yes, citizens there pay for healthcare either through taxes or premiums. We buy ballrooms, nuisance lawsuits, criminal slush funds for bribers, wars, etc so we “cant afford” healthcare and daycare and other things unimportant people need.

Kathy Z.'s avatar

Beautifully stated, Mac. Thank you. It’s heartening to hear from what seems like another voice in the wilderness! I agree from the standpoint of someone who works in the field of adults with intellectual disabilities. We must re-build our education and social care structures alongside medicare for all.

Christy B.'s avatar

A doctor speaking about the incompetence of illness care, finally! I applaud you breaking away from the usual medical gaslighting that tells us our concerns are all in our heads, it's just stress or getting older, and "No, you cannot have that MRI though it's the best tool for your problem."

I hope you're on a board somewhere that can impact positive change.

Thank you for your book "Fighting Oligarchy" I just finished reading it and I feel so much more informed on everything going on in this administration, I really wish you were the one in the white house, we'd be much better off, your ideas are revolutionary

A PRO-DEMOCRACY COALITION OF LAWMAKERS AND LEADERS is needed to create a radical, progressive, actionable plan, rooted in the US Constitution, that delivers transformative change as demanded by the growing COMMUNITY OF ACTIVE AND CONCERNED CITIZENS that is demanding an alternative to Project 2025.

Voters want to VOTE FOR SOMETHING not against something.

FEEL THE BERN!

Thank you for continuing your fight against the oligarchs. It is truly the only way the regular people can have a more even playing field. The democrats need to be loud about what they are going to do about it. It is the only way to continue to win. We need to get billionaires out of our politics.

Absolutely dead on. **All** of this.

Couldn't agree with you more, Bernie!!! I left the Democrat party. I'm still a progressive but I want to see real action from whomever takes down trump and his cronies‼️ Things are just awful and they need to be turned around! I'll support good people no matter what party they're attached to. No more liars and wanna be millionaires and billionaires 💥💯💯👌 Get us out of this stupid war‼️

I’m concerned about what @This Will Hold has been finding. Along with @Election Truth Alliance about Elon Musk satellites, the republican owners of the vote tabulation software companies, such as Dominion. Trump himself, even publicly spoke of Elon, his knowledge of computers, and admitted that “he really helped me in Pennsylvania”.

Judith C Birenbaum's avatar

I totally agree with you. We have to address the long ongoing, often fraudulent manipulation of our elections. They’re strong evidence. Trump wasn’t truly elected.
